Permanent Residence (Quebec and Canada)

The main categories of permanent residence in Canada are economic, family reunification, refugee and humanitarian & compassionate. Every year, the immigration levels for each category are set on approximately November 1st by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Due to Quebec’s unique status in Canada, all immigrants who wish to settle in Quebec must be selected for permanent immigration by Quebec’s Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (the MIFI). They require a Certificate of Selection of Quebec to immigrate permanently to Quebec.

Economic Immigration

At Middlemiss Immigration Law, we regularly represent professionals and their employers with permanent residence applications under the points-based Express Entry intake process and pursuant to provincial nominee programs across Canada.

For Quebec-based applicants, we assist with CSQ applications under the Quebec Experience Program (Worker and Graduate streams) and the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (soon to be renamed the Quebec Skilled Worker Selection Program).

Family Reunification: Sponsorship Applications

We assist families in sponsorship applications to reunite together in Canada. We regularly assist with spousal and common-law partner sponsorship applications. When program intake opens and IRCC extends invitations to eligible sponsors, we assist clients with parental sponsorship applications.

We recognize how important it is for you and your family to ensure that sponsorship permanent residence applications are handled with attention and care.

Humanitarian & Compassionate applications for permanent residence

We have familiarity with humanitarian and compassionate applications for permanent residence. Every year, we represent a limited number of clients for this exceptional permanent residence category.  These are complex applications which tend to involve a higher level of discretion by the immigration officer within this exceptional category.
